Date : Sunday, 10 June 2018

Venue : Mahapura village, Rajasthan

We have teamed up with Ishan Malhotra, a student of Jayshree Periwal International School, Jaipur and are doing our bit to empower the farmers in the villages of Rajasthan. Ishan has created PLUTO, a simple device that enables a farmer to switch on/off his water pump from any corner of the world. On 10th June, we distributed over 400 Pluto devices among the farmers of Mahapura village in Rajasthan and also installed them in their fields. With Pluto boxes, now it has become considerably easier for the farmers in Mahapura to water their fields.

Due to erratic electricity supply in Mahapura village, farmers have to visit their farms at unusual hours and multiple times in a day and also during the night for the purpose of switching on their motor pumps and irrigating their fields. Pluto devices have been proved to be immensely useful for the farmers in Mahapura as they have made it possible for the farming community to turn on or turn off the motor pumps  installed in their fields through a landline or a simple 2G phone, without using any 3G/4G network. Therefore, with Pluto devices, it has been possible for the farmers to switch on their motor pumps without leaving their homes at odd hours and save the hours that they earlier used in walking to their fields.  By using Pluto, the farmers have gained the ultimate benefit of not having to worry about watering their crops any more.
